Feedback is Currency

I’m never gonna stop saying this: #NeverStopLearning. And a big part of learning is knowing (and accepting) that you don’t know everything. In fact, more likely than not, you know nothing, or next to it. This is why feedback is so important – it fills in gaps in your knowledge.

And this is especially true in any creative endeavor, like voice work. As artists, we’re prone to falling in love with our own work, or in our case, the sounds of our own voices. So we often find ourselves repeating patterns and forming bad habits. Worse, we don’t notice when this happens.

How Clean is Your Space?

I know this isn’t the first time I brought up this point, but IMO it’s really that important.

The quality of your recordings depends more on your space than your mic. Recording in a noisy space? Your mic will pick up everything. Does sound bounce all over your room? Your mic will pick that up, too. If you can hear noise, chances are your mic is picking that up as well.

So before you go out and buy a new microphone, take a moment and think about how good your current recording space is. Maybe you can invest more into that first.

Soundproofing vs. Sound Treatment

If you’re a voice actor, a podcaster, a streamer, or anyone else who deals with recording audio, the topics of soundproofing and acoustic treatment will probably come up a lot.
